Matthias Wessling, RWTH Aachen University, Germany

Matthias Wessling is Professor of Chemical Product and Process Engineering at RWTH Aachen University and Member of the Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials. He is specialized in the development of membranes and catalytic materials for electrolysis processes and integrates them into scalable electrolysers. He is member of the Steering Board of the Cluster4Future on Hydrogen.

As Vice Rector for Research and Structure he signs responsible for the Excellence Strategy of RWTH Aachen University and its strategic developments. RWTH’s ambition is to be Germany’s academic cornerstone for providing sustainable solutions that impact today’s and future’s challenges.

With its vision of “knowledge.impact.networks”, RWTH Aachen is an important player in the current transformations of today’s energy, materials and resource sectors.  The  transformation of the Rheinisches Revier, located at the border between the Netherlands and Germany, can serve as a European model region to swiftly implement defossilization strategies – with hydrogen being one essential key ingredient.
